NSW: First Sydney fireworks show brings harbour to life
Hundreds of thousands of partygoers ignored forecasts of showers .. which didn't happen
.. to watch the first of two spectacular fireworks shows light up Sydney Harbour.
At 9pm (AEDT) .. the world-famous body of water burst into life .. with an eight-minute
family fireworks extravaganza igniting the overcast skies and mesmerising the crowds below.
The fireworks exploded from four barges on the harbour .. from the bridge and from
the roofs of nine city skyscrapers .. showering the city in a blaze of colour.
It's believed one-point-five million people are crowded around the harbour throughout
the evening .. with the larger 12-minute fireworks extravaganza kicking off at midnight.
The bill for Sydney's party this year is five million dollars.
